Donald Sterling can do whatever he pleases, deal with it.

If you are less than rich, then tough luck. If your skin colour is anything but white, then tough luck, if your gender is anything but male, then tough luck. And if you are all of the above then tough, tough luck.

Because the world does not belong to you.

The world belongs to the likes of Donald Sterling. Because Donald Sterling is rich. Donald Sterling is white. Donald Sterling is a man.

And If you do not understand why he, a man who owns a team of predominantly black players and is dating a black/Mexican woman can make such outrageous comments as he did (excerpt below) then turn the whole thing around to look like he is the victim, then understand this.

It’s because he can.

He is rich, he is white and he is male. The world is his oyster and he can do whatever he damn well pleases. Understand this and you will not be so scandalized by the latest scandal to hit the NBA. Because these are the facts:

If you are rich you can buy and own things…

Lots of things. Cars, clothes, jets, islands, football teams and yes…people.

In Donald Sterling’s words: “I support them (black people) and give them food, and clothes, and cars, and houses. Who gives it to them? Does someone else give it to them?”

If you are rich and white you will never have to deal with what Oprah Winfrey had to deal with…

When she visited a shop in Switzerland. She wanted to take a closer look at a handbag selling for $38,000, but the salesperson at Zurich’s Trois Pommes refused to take it off the shelf,  ‘No, it’s too expensive”, she told Winfrey. Imagine, Oprah Winfrey, one of the world’s richest women.

But if you are rich, white and male, the world is your oyster:

Have a girlfriend that looks like this:

And have hopes of getting an offspring or two from this union. One might even end up looking like this:

If at any point your girlfriend (pictured above the make believe little girl here) dares to question you when you, in fact, say questionable things, you can chastise her for not being the ‘delicate white girl’ you thought she was, put her on notice- if she does not stop challenging you, then you will replace her.

Us mere mortals can talk all we want. We can fine the prick, even kick him out of the NBA. And he will be a pariah-

For a while.

But when all is said and done, more will be said than done. The bottom line is we will not be able to take away Donald Sterling’s innate instincts or even power. In fact, my bet is, after the dust settles and our attention diverts to another story of equal or greater shock value, Donald Sterling  will have quietly regrouped, re-directing his resources to another ‘hobby’ where he can continue being the Donald Sterling he has always been.

And because he is a rich white man, Donald Sterling will never be told by a store clerk in Zurich (or anywhere else for that matter) that things are ‘too expensive for him’. Donald Sterling will still be able to buy whatever or whoever is up for sale, girlfriends included. Because in his words, ‘If a girl can’t do what I want, don’t want that girl. I’ll find a girl that will do what I want. Believe me”.

We believe you Donald Sterling, we believe you.
